Friday, 1/29/10, 10:00pm • Killer Filler with Blood Red River
Killer Filler plays entirely instumental music; some lounge, some funk, some pop, etc. Emphasis on the "etc." When people talk about Blood Red River, words like 'garage' and 'surf' inevitably seem to come up. The band themselves prefer 'Action/Adventure', whatever that's supposed to mean...or more like a 'roots' thing. Not middle-aged-white-guys-playin-the-blues 'roots' music, more like the roots of Rock an' Roll...1976...1966...1956 and even further back if you want to figure in all those crazy pre-electric guys.

Saturday 1/30/10, 10:00pm • Jo Gore & The Alternative with Highway 54
Jo Gore grew up in Spring Hill Baptist, where she developed her heavy vibrato, improvisation, and interpretation of melody reminiscent of the great vocal jazz and gospel stylists of the 50's and 60's. Her music focuses on improvisational original material and bluesy explorations ranging from funky world beat rhythms, jazz, and pop hits to slow, meditative new age musings. Hwy54 was originally conceived as a blues band, but the members soon realized that there was more to their sound than just straight blues...
